This command will install Microsoft fonts for use system-wide:
sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
To use yor own personal collection of TrueType fonts:
cd ~ mkdir .fonts
Then simply copy all the .ttf files into the newly created folder.
Remember to restart your application to use the new fonts. If you don't restart your application, the new fonts probably wont be visible.
