Linux Hard Disk Repair Tip

E-mail Print PDF

Once a disk begins to fail, i.e. has bad blocks, it is likely that it will continue to fail in the future. With the price of disks being low, we recommend buying a new one if bad blocks are found.

That being said, this command will scan your disk and mark off the bad blocks on it. Only run this on unmounted disks. It takes a LONG time to run.

badblocks -f /dev/hdx

Substitute your actual device.
