How To Configure an Actiontec DSL Router

Though we have used various models of Actiontec DSL access routers, these simple instructions for the GT701 will probably suffice.

Notes

  • do not install any software on your PC - it's not necessary
  • easy web browser management
  • the default IP address is 192.168.0.1
  • the default username is 'admin'
  • the default password is blank
  • the DHCP server function is turned on by default

To Restore Factory Defaults

  • only needed if you can't access the HTML management pages
  • press and hold the reset button for ten seconds until the power light turns an “amber” color
  • after the “amber” light appears, release the reset button to reboot
  • if your PC is configured for DHCP (auto), reboot your PC to renew your DHCP lease
    • most PCs are configured for DHCP

Configure an Actiontec DSL Router for Use with Sonora Comm ADSL Internet Access Service

  • open a web browser and browse to the IP of the router
    • http://192.168.0.1 is the factory default
      • try http://192.168.1.1 if that doesn't work
      • or reset the router to factory defaults and then reboot your PC
    • choose Setup / Configuration
    • choose Begin Basic Setup
    • choose PPPoA
      • for static IP accounts, use your assigned credentials
      • for dynamic IP accounts, use 'opusone' and 'dsl'
    • Before you save and restart
      • choose Utilities
      • choose DSL Settings
        • make sure VPI is set to 0
        • make sure VCI is set to 32
    • Save and Restart
