When your cable Internet connection stops working properly, the problem can commonly be resolved by properly resetting your equipment.
Unfortunatley, it's not quite as simple as it sounds. Many people are frustrated by not resettting their gear in the proper order...and the order is very important.
Here are the steps:
- Unplug the power from cable modem and router
- Wait at least 3 minutes (repeat the procedure and wait 10 minutes if 3 doesn't work)
- Reapply power to the cable modem (but not the router)
- Verify the cable modem sync's up (often 4 LED's on a Motorola cable modem )
- Reapply power to the router
- Wait 3 more minutes for the router to boot up and get its IP address from the cable company
- Test Internet connectivity, possibly using a web browser to go to more than one web site
- Reboot the PC, if necessary
If you don't have a router, and your PC connects directly to the cable modem, substitute your PC for the router in the above steps.
If all that fails, you probably need to call the cable company.
